There are many beautiful places to visit in Chandigarh. It was the first founded city after the independence of India. French and English architects contributed to the planning of the city center. The green avenues of the city center earned Chandigarh the nickname ‘the city beautiful’.
Chandigarh Museum and Art gallery: This magnificent museum is a premier museum of North India. Having collections of Gandharan sculptures, Pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings. It owes its existence to the partition of India in August 1947.
Butterfly Park: Landscaped park & conservatory with trees, shrubs, and flowers attracting 35 species of butterfly.
Leisure Valley: Linear park made up of themed gardens stretching 8 km in a former eroded valley.
Garden of Silence: A meditative space at the end of Sukhna Lake, features a seated Buddha. This is the latest addition to monuments of Chandigarh.
Rose Garden: This garden has over 50000 bushes of rose and over 1600 species.
Sukhna Lake: This 3 km² rainfed lake was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream coming down from the Shivalik Hills.
Rock Garden: Spread over 40 acres of land. This was secretly started by a government employee named Nek Chand. In his spare time in the year 1957. It is completely built of industrial and home waste and thrown-away items. The rock garden is a must-visit attraction of Chandigarh.
